Frequently asked questions

Everything people usually want to know about PDFnexly.

Is it really free, with no catch?

Yes. There is no paid plan to upgrade to, no trial that expires, no daily limit and no watermark on anything you download.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no signup, no login and no email address required. Nothing you do here is tied to an identity.

Are my files uploaded?

For almost every tool, no — the work happens inside your browser. The few tools that need a server engine say so clearly on the page, and delete your file automatically after converting it.

How large a file can I use?

Browser tools accept files up to 200 MB, though the real limit is your device's memory. Server-side conversions accept up to 50 MB.

Why is my compressed PDF barely smaller?

Compression mostly works by re-encoding images. A PDF that is already text and vector graphics has little left to squeeze, so the honest answer is that it was already efficient.

Why is my scanned PDF's text not searchable?

A scan is a picture of text. Run it through OCR PDF first: that recognises the words and adds an invisible, searchable text layer over the image.

Can you recover a password I have forgotten?

No, and we would not want to be able to. Unlock PDF decrypts a document using a password you supply; it never guesses or bypasses one.

Does it work offline?

Once you have visited the site, the app shell is cached, and browser-based tools keep working without a connection. Server conversions obviously do not.

Which browsers are supported?

Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop, iOS and Android. Very old browsers may lack the APIs the tools rely on, and will say so rather than fail silently.
